Keep Lexington Beautiful Director - Elvie Montes

Elvie Montes serves as the director for Keep Lexington Beautiful. She called Lexington home at the age of 5 when her family relocated from California. She attended school in town up until her junior year in high school, where she then moved and graduated from Lincoln East.

After graduating high school, she moved to Grand Island where she obtained her associate degree in science. While in Grand Island she worked as a parent facilitator for Grand Island Public Schools, volunteering in programs such as Project Homeless Connect, Coat Drive, and Salvation Army.

During this time, she also started attending the University of Nebraska-Kearney pursuing a degree in Construction Management and Environmental Science – she is still in the process of making this dream a reality.

She joined Keep Lexington Beautiful as the director in August of 2019 with a passion for creating a better environment, and what better place to do that than her own hometown of Lexington, where she hopes to continue educating the community young and experience of how to create a more sustainable and litter free place to live in.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and new puppy Nala but also finding creative ways to educate our young minds on the importance of reducing waste, reusing, and recycling.

  • President - Cristal Zern

I am currently a stay-at-home mom. However, prior to this last school year, I worked as a Kindergarten/1st-grade teacher for 7 years. Since I’ve been home, I decided to get more involved in the community. I have joined several organizations, such as the Children's Museum where I was part of the board of directors, I'm currently serving on the worship team at my church, I'm a part of the mommy group at the public library, and I'm currently helping with media for the United By Culture Festival 2022, I also recently joined the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

I am very passionate about my involvement in the community. I encourage my daughter who is almost 4 years of age to be part of different events in Lexington. Being a part of the community really excites and I am always willing to learn new things and take on challenges.

I have been a resident of Lexignton since 2006. I have grown to enjoy and care for this community. I have a son named Israel who is 8 years old, he loves and enjoys doing activities that are offered within Lexington. I'm currently a Tax Preparer Associate with H&R Block and have been with them for 4+ years. I have always enjoyed helping people, friends and children in whatever I can or is within my reach. As an Education/Outreach Coordinator now I hope to expand and make a difference. I plan to come up with activities, ideas and more to help our children and families be more part of our environment.
